JOB DESCRIPTION
PROJECT MANAGEMENT
The Project Associate will work under the overall guidance of the IUCN Country Representative and Project, IUCN and under the supervision of Sr. Project Officer/Project Officer, ensuring full facilitation for the successful delivery of the project activities related to wildlife surveys, species assessments, and initiation of the process for development of the Red Data Book. Specific responsibilities include:
1. Provide Administrative support in the implementation of project activities as per the agreement between IUCN and Punjab Wildlife & Parks Department, in alignment with the approved work plan.
2. Maintain close liaison with the district level project stakeholders, vendors and communities.
3. Attend project meetings, ensure list of participants, invitations for the meetings, meeting minutes and organizing project reports.
4. Coordination with staff of the Punjab Wildlife & Parks Department to solicit their cooperation and support in implementation of the project and ensure their participation in meetings/workshops.
5. Assist in maintaining project budgets and tracking expenditures in compliance with IUCN’s financial policies and donor guidelines.
6. Assist in maintaining records of project hirings both HR and Administrative.
7. Coordinate with project staff, including field staff, and consultants to ensure the timely delivery of work plans and quality outputs.
8. Follow ups at District level with relevant stakeholders, including government agencies, research institutions, and conservation organizations, to effectively implement the project.
9. Follow up on stakeholders’ engagement, consultations, and organizing workshops on wildlife assessment, surveys, and species monitoring.
10. Participate in data collection, field surveys, and species assessments, ensuring adherence to standardized methodologies for scientific outputs.
11. Prepare technical, financial, and progress reports for submission to IUCN and donors, in line with project requirements.
12. Ensure implementation of a communication plan for disseminating key findings and raising awareness about species conservation.
13. Participate in surveys, assessments, data processing and reporting for the Red Data Book development.
14. Perform any other tasks as assigned by the Supervisor.
B. PROJECT/PROGRAMME DEVELOPMENT
1. Assist in designing and implementing new wildlife conservation projects aligned with global biodiversity goals
2. Assist in development of funding proposals for complementary initiatives, including species conservation, ecological research, and policy advocacy
3. Assist in the facilitation of cross-programme learning, integrating themes such as ecosystem-based conservation, climate resilience, and sustainable natural resource management.
C. OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Contribute to IUCN’s One Programme Approach, ensuring integration across different conservation initiatives.
2. Ensure strengthening institutional relationships with government agencies, conservation organizations, and IUCN Members.
3. Represent IUCN in meetings, workshops, and technical forums related to wildlife conservation and species assessments at District level.
4. Support knowledge-sharing by contributing to publications, reports, and policy briefs.
5. Ensure IUCN’s branding and conservation messaging are effectively communicated in all project-related activities.
6. Ensure effective communication of project updates within IUCN and externally with partners, in consultation with IUCN senior management.
REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor’s degree in Zoology, Forestry, or a related field with at least 2-3 years of experience in wildlife surveys, species assessments, and conservation.
• Proficiency in English and Urdu (Reading, spoken and written) is must. Fluency in local languages of Punjab will be added advantage.
• Ability to work in field conditions and participate in field surveys in rugged, mountainous, or remote terrains
• Physically fit to travel and undertake fieldwork in challenging conditions.
• Good communication and report-writing skills
SALARY
The gross annual salary for this position is between PKR 2'000'490 and PKR 2'500'612. While this is an indicative amount effective as of the current date, changes may occur as per IUCN's compensation practices without prior notice. The same applies to other organisations hosted by IUCN.
